ical components, storage technologies, displays
and boards as well as wireless technologies.
After opening the product group, selecting
the product family and item group, the pa-
rameter search window pops up for the selec-
tion of the possible product parameters. Six
of the most important parameters are already
pre-selected. You receive all information about
the selected component. Alternatively you are
able to search for components via complete or
incomplete part numbers. The availability is
displayed with the colours green, yellow and
red. On request the tool recommends available
replacements, a function making sense for ex-
ample for obsolete parts, less expensive or
best available components. If you push the
more information button you ll receive all
available information about your selected prod-
uct and – usually – the link to the data sheet
of the manufacturer. If there are questions
about a product which cannot be clarified by
the online tool you can ask questions. The
questions are forwarded to the responsible
product manager who will answer the question
via e-mail in 24 hours. If you need price infor-
mation you ll receive it from the tool which
offers price per unit. Varying the volume
changes the price accordingly. After completing
the shopping basket and cross-checking your
order, you can send your online order directly
to Rutronik and you ll receive an acknowledg-
ment of receipt.
Thomas Rudel explains: “We started Rutron-
ik24 in March 2013 and have contacted 10,000
new potential customers up to date. The
Rutronik24 newsletter has gained 18,000 sub-
scribers with approximately 100 new ones
every week.” This success is due to the fact
that Rutronik24 is easy to use because the user
is guided through the tool and given access to
the entire application know-how of Rutronik.
This enables Rutronik to integrate new product
lines in the existing product portfolio and grow
into new markets. At the start Rutronik24 is
concentrated on the German market, but grad-
ually it will be extended. According to Rudel,
the Italian market and also the Chinese market
are currently “very interesting”. In both markets
there are many small electronic manufacturers
which do not have access to the relatively small
volumes they need of high quality components.
Rutronik24 can be a well-suited solution for
them, as thanks to the Internet the online tool
is accessible all over the world.
n
Thomas Rudel: “Our E-commerce tool
Rutronik24 enables us to satisfy the needs of
customers who demand high quality compo-
nents in low volumes. This was not possible
without Internet.”

LDRA: integration with Lauterbach TRACE32 debugger and simulator
LDRA has integrated the LDRA tool suite with the Lauterbach TRACE32 Debugger and Simu-
lator. Lauterbach’s hardware-assisted debug tools ease the interface to the embedded device,
enabling developers to download and fully test an application on the target. Thanks to the in-
terface, rigorous safety-critical testing and certification—a traditionally time-intensive, manual
process—is automated, enabling a broad range of microcontroller and processor-based appli-
cations to achieve medical (IEC 62304), industrial safety (IEC 61508), automotive (ISO
26262) and avionics (DO-178B/C) compliance. An extension to the LDRA tool suite uses the
TRACE32 Debugger to download the code

TI helps to kickstart Internet of Things development
To help kickstart the development of Wi-Fi-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) applications,
Texas Instruments announced the SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 BoosterPack. The new Wi-Fi
BoosterPack is powered by the SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 module from TI, which offers
simplified Wi-Fi connectivity for microcontroller (MCU) -based systems. Working with both
the MSP430 and Tiva C Series MCU LaunchPad evaluation kits, the CC3000 BoosterPack
(CC3000BOOST) quickly gets designs started for a wide variety of MCU-based home
automation, health and fitness and machine to machine (M2M) applications.
