SPS/IPC/DRIVES Overview

Meet suppliers of electric automation technology from around the world. Inform yourself about all products, trends and innovations within the industry from 22 - 24 November 2011 in Nuremberg. This year’s SPS/IPC/DRIVES will be bigger and more international than ever before. The 2011 event will achieve a new record for the number of exhibitors. There are over 1,400 companies on the exhibitor list. As well as the highest number of exhibitors, the event will occupy 12 halls for the first time and more than 100,000 sam of exhibitor space has been sold.

Companies from almost 40 countries will be exhibiting, representing an increase of 20%. With 76 companies registered, Italy is the foreign country providing the most exhibitors, followed by Switzerland (36), China (35) and Austria (27). Following 2010’s record total visitor number, more than 50,000 visitors are likely to attend again this year. About 20% of the visitors are expected to come from abroad and the proportion of international trade visitors continues to increase.

With 10,000 sam of exhibition space, hall 3 which is in use for the first time will accommodate the companies in the “Drive and control technology” sector. Hall 8 where “Control technology” is to be found will also cover the new topic “Human-machine-interface-devices”.

The three joint stands “wireless in automation”, “AMA Center for sensor, measuring and testing technologies” as well as “open source meets industry” will provide visitors with a targeted overview of each of the three topics. The exhibition forums led by the associations VDMA and ZVEI will offer high quality presentations and panel discussions on the leading issues of the day.

The advisory board nominated 3 trend topics: energy efficiency, industrial identification, safety and security. SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2011 offers lost of information about products, applications and solutions on these topics. They are in the spotlight within the exhibition halls, at the different forums and in the conference program.

Energy efficiency - Electric automation provides a basis for successful energy management. Systematically using automation’s new products, systems and solutions lets you achieve up to 25 % in potential energy savings. For example, two-thirds of electricity consumption in the industry is accounted for by machines powered by electric motors. The replacement of old drives that in some cases have been running for decades with modern drive technologies, could save 38 billion kilowatt hours per year. For this reason, intelligent applications and solutions with process and manufacturing automation contribute in particular to energy efficiency in companies. This reduces the production costs of the companies using the applications over the medium and long term, making them more competitive and preserving jobs. Besides the diverse application areas in industrial production, automation also makes a critical contribution to the generation, transfer and distribution of power.

Safety and security - Modern safety technologies support the protection of people and products. Safety describes the functional safety of a machine or system, i.e. its ability to operate without malfunctioning or causing danger. This involves reliably protecting people, machines and the environment against damage. Security refers to securing a machine or a system against unauthorized and undesirable access or data manipulation. Through the constant networking expansion of economic and technical processes in automation, meanwhile there is a high demand for safety-related solutions and for solutions in terms of IT security.

Industrial identification - When innovative product labeling and intelligent sensor technology meet, they create efficient and safe production processes. Industrial identification (modern image processing, RFID tags, data matrixes and barcodes) exposes plagiarism, lets parts find their way to the next production station, and gives system components a digital memory. Using the innovative technologies of product labeling and identification to protect and follow products makes production, logistics and maintenance more efficient, reducing errors and costs.
