We are seeing a number of
attacks both
on industrial control systems (ICS) and on the operational technology
(OT) side of the industrial IoT (IIoT) with increasing frequency. We
talked to ICS and OT specialists at major cybersecurity solutions
providers, as well as key industry analysts, to suss out the answers.

Capacitor manufacturers are aware of the challenges that supply shortages bring and can help designers with alternative options — selecting different values, evaluating other technologies, and redesigns.
Security is not something that any
developer can
ignore. It is no longer safe, for the OEM or their customers, to assume
that their product or service is immune to cyber
attacks. Protection must now be endemic, meaning it is the
responsibility of everyone to at least understand the threat, as well
as the solutions available to protect devices from that threat.
Fortunately, solutions now exist ...
The more devices that get connected to
the
industrial internet of things (IIoT) networks, the more that those
networks get hacked and attacked. Cyberattacks of all kinds used to be
directed mostly at IT networks but not anymore. Many of today’s
attackers are going after the industrial control system (ICS) and
operational technology (OT) side of the IIoT. Welcome to AspenCore
Media’s Special Project on The Day When the Industrial IoT Gets Hacked.

The Blue Gecko Xpress is a
Bluetooth
module based development kit that is specially designed to make adding
BLE to applications as easy as possible, even for developers who have
never worked with Bluetooth. With BGX13, Bluetooth does not have to be
an intimidating interface to manage. Learn more!

Increasing demands on power
distribution networks
have resulted in smaller DC rails, as well as a proliferation of rails
that ensure clean power reaches the pins of integrated circuits. This
guide covers five tips for making accurate power integrity measurements
with oscilloscopes...
Software
vulnerabilities can manifest themselves in many ways, but typically,
they are exploited by abusing software interfaces in ways outside of
their designed operation. But we can help ourselves during our
development to make static analysis tools more accurate and relevant to
our cause.
The RSL10 System-in-Package (SiP) from
ON
Semiconductor integrates an antenna, the RSL10 radio System-on-Chip
(SoC), and all required passive components in one miniature package,
reducing design efforts and accelerating time-to-market. Housed within
the 51-pin, 6×8×1.46-mm module is the RSL10 Bluetooth 5 certified,
multiprotocol radio SoC, which offers ultra-low power consumption for
wireless applications without compromising battery life.

Previous installments of
this series
discussed the need to verify SPICE model accuracy, the
measurement of output impedance and small-signal bandwidth
of op amp models. Part 3 shows how to measure some of the most
common input-referred error sources that affect both DC and AC
accuracy: common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR), power-supply rejection
ratio (PSRR), input offset voltage (Vos), input bias current (Ib), and
input offset current (Ios).

Joining Infineon’s EiceDriver family
of 200 V
level-shift gate drivers is the IRS2007S half-bridge driver, which
provides independent undervoltage lockout (UVLO) for VCC and VBS to
ensure reliable startup operation. The device is intended for
low-voltage (24 V, 36 V, and 48 V) and medium-voltage (60 V, 80 V, 100
V, and 120 V) motor-control applications, such as battery-powered
tools, household equipment, and light electric vehicles.
Embedded devices used to be relatively
straightforward to design before the IoT. With the introduction of the
smartphone, we now expect our devices to be smart, upgradable and
accessible over the Internet. If security is not taken seriously, data,
brand reputation and revenue streams will all be
affected. Fortunately, you can use existing standards and
stack libraries to get a project completed in a timely, secure way...

More and more real time
applications
do require a very strong CPU capability, aside integrated peripherals.
But, there was still a question mark with regards to the amount of
embedded flash needed in these applications. Do we really need 2 MB of
embedded Flash for this connected application? Can I reduce my system
cost?

Design engineers might have to
implement security
elements into a chip, software, or platform, but they may not know how
their work fits into their company’s security policies...
Growing requirements for increased
availability of
IoT devices coincide with the emergence of cellular technologies well
suited for the IoT. For developers, the need has never been more acute
for more detailed information about cellular technologies and their
application to the IoT.

The market for microcontrollers is
forecast to
rise steadily over the next five years, due mostly to the the
increasing prevalence of sensors and the rise of the Internet of Things
(IoT), according to market research firm IC Insights. MCU shipments are
projected to rise by 18% this this year, reaching 30.6 billion units...
U.S. President Donald Trump again
ratched up the
U.S.-China trade war, levying tariffs on an additional $200 billion
worth of imports from China — including parts and materials used in
semiconductor manufacturing.

A venture capital fund backed by
nanoelectronics
and digital technologies research hub imec in Belgium has closed its
first fund with €117 million (about $137 million) in committed capital.
The fund aims to address a problem that has plagued European
semiconductor and hardware research spinouts and startups for many
years — the gap in growth funding.
