Just in time for the Mobile World Congress,
the EETimes/EDN Europe team has produced in cooperation Infineon an
eBook about Connecting Real and Digital World. The eBook focuses on the
topics "Smart Home" and on "5G and Secure Connectivity". Amongst others
the ebook provides articles about the next level of human machine
interaction, how make the smart and connected home secure,
Hardware-based security for mobile devices, how to debottleneck your
audio chain, securing network equipment is key to supporting IoT
infrastructure, ...

The 10 biggest semiconductor R&D spenders raised the
ante last year by 6 percent, led by Intel, according to market research
firm IC Insights. The top 10 increased their overall expenditures to
$35.9 billion in 2017, compared with $34 billion in 2016.
How much power does it take to download each Gigabyte of
data over the internet? Would you believe 2 kWh? That's the figure
presented by Roger Nichols, Keysight’s 5G Program Manager, at
Keysight’s 5G Tech Connect event.

In this tenth article in my series about
career experiences in the PCB design industry, I’ve settled into a
long-term adventure providing significant creative opportunities and
challenges.

Three new modules based on Xilinx FPGAs are now
available from embedded systems prototyping supplier Pro Design for
development and verification of SoC designs based on Arm Cortex
processors.
Intel will show a working prototype of a 2-in-1 PC with
an embedded 5G cellular modem at Mobile World Congress, a type of
system it said at least two OEMs will ship next year. In a separate
effort to expand its cellular modem business, Intel announced a 5G SoC
design collaboration with China’s Spreadtrum.
You probably have a Wi-Fi router at home and probably in
your office as well. While all access points, routers, computers,
phones, and other devices must comply with IEEE 802.11 and Ethernet
Alliance standards, that's no assurance the device will meet your
expectations. The UNH-IOL has announced Wi-Fi testing services that go
beyond 802.11 specifications.

Remember back…way back, to linear power
supplies. Heavy transformers. Big capacitors. As part of my EDN CDEL
build, I’ve decided to use just such a power supply as the front end to
the two DC-DC PSU modules. Here’s the story behind the transformer.

Serial NOR Flash memory and serial NAND Flash memory
occupy a relatively large proportion of the total board real estate in
many space-constrained designs. In this article you will learn how
improved die-stacking technology reduces pin count, board footprint and
system complexity.
Within
external and internal power supplies working with 230VAC noise
filtering is mandatory to comply with European and global EMI reduction
rules. When it comes to filtering through chokes the magnetic material
plays a major role to comply with that. The webinar will show you which
components will help you to reduce size and weight while keeping the
performance of filtering on the same level and you will learn how to
choose the right magnetic filter.

In this part of our Power Supply Design Tutorial we will look at the
three basic DC to DC converter topologies in detail. We’ll also examine
the flyback converter, and some of the compound switching converters.
And we will explain in general terms the elements of a switching
converter that can now be found inside the package of the control IC.
As well as those components that still live outside the package.

The world's first cloud for any embedded display via the
flatpanel controller offers full connectivity to enable central
parameterization and constant monitoring of the operational status of
displays. Learn more on how to easily connect displays to the IoT in
this white paper.
CodeMeter License Central offers licenses with unit
counters and automated processes, which makes pay-per-use models just
as simple to handle as permanent or subscription licenses. In this
on-demand webinar, we will go through the whole lifecycle from a number
of success stories that will get you inspired to the whole set of
actions that will get you started.
Today we are entering an era in which machines adapt
their behaviour to humans, rather than the other way around. In this
webinar you will learn about the latest Human Vision Components and
about OKAO, a software which includes ten different sensing
technologies related to human recognition.

It’s official. Commercial robotic cars (that
are no longer test cars) will hit the road in 2018, not — as previously
predicted — two or three years from now.
