Despite enthusiasm over 5G, spending on cellular base stations will continue a significant decline over the next three years before returning to growth in 2021, according to a new report from Dell’Oro Group. The report is roughly in line with the outlook from infrastructure giant Ericsson that reported worse than expected quarterly results.
Much of the 5G technology and technical standards are still in development, but that doesn't mean that wireless carriers are sitting around waiting for it. There's plenty of activity on the 4G/LTE front. Carriers are still bringing flavors of LTE online and the test industry is responding.
Though reflowing boards at home can take some practice, there are lots of workable solutions out there – mostly involving kitchen appliances like toaster ovens and various sorts of hot plates and skillets. Here’s an approach that I like even more than the usual kitchen-based designs.
GAN (generative adversarial networks) are a class of deep neural networks that contest against each other to produce everything from photorealistic images to robotic behavior. The basic idea is to train two artificial intelligences at once, setting one to learn and the other to essentially challenge the first’s results.
Batteries with electrodes based on MXenes offer the promise of high storage capacity and very fast charging. A team at Drexel University has developed a novel new battery design based on two-dimensional transition metal carbides (MXenes) whose “third dimension” is only a few atoms thick.

The wearables market currently is composed primarily of wristbands and smart watches. The biggest challenge for wearable devices has been keeping these devices properly and conveniently powered. Present designs of wristbands and watches force the user to remove the device and plug it into a wired charger.

Harness manufacturing is a low margin business where quality, accuracy, and speed are essential to success. It can benefit from a full, automated and digitally continuous flow from product design to harness manufacturing.
Designing embedded computer platforms that can cope with extremes in temperature, vibration and humidity demands a focused approach to quality. Delivering truly rugged solutions requires a focused strategy that begins with R&D and ends with robust products.
We have put together for you a Microsite with White Papers and E-Books about the digital transformation for the Manufacturing Industry and how Windows 10 can help to drive this transformation.
CrossLink is an innovative video bridging solution. This White Paper describes five new applications for Crosslink_ three represent an emphasis on new video bridging solutions, two are traditional interface conversion.
Today, a wide range of connected Embedded Systems is available on the market. And the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is driving the addition of more connected devices. But not only “Connectivity” is essential to the success of the IIoT, “Security” is critical too.
