embedded world 2014 has opened doors

embedded world, the biggest exhibition of its kind and the meeting-place of the international embedded community, has opened its doors today. Last year, 900 exhibitors showed more than 22,500 visitors the full range of products for embedded technologies.  And even more visitors are expected this year. Our daily embedded world newsletter informs about (product) highlights which are on show from Feb 25 to 27 in Nuremberg.

Renesas launches car rally competition for students
Renesas Electronics Europe is launching Europe’s first MCU Car Rally competition for students at embedded world 2014. Teams of students from across Europe will use this exciting learning opportunity to build an autonomous, self-guided car from a kit of mechatronic components.

Altera showcases FPGA and SoC designs 
On their booth, Altera will discuss their portfolio of ARM Cortex A9 and A53 based SoC devices and will showcase a number of FPGA and SoC-based demonstrations. In collaboration with partner Exor International, Altera will demonstrate an implementation of an integrated programmable logic controller and a human machine interface system running on a single 28 nm Altera Cyclone V SoC.

ERNI extends COM portfolio in the value and high-end range
ERNI Electronics is presenting extensions within the scope of its WHITEspeed COM family. This sees the current modules being complemented with new variants both for higher performance and also for highly cost-sensitive applications.

MEN: new VITA standard for rugged COM Express modules
The new VITA 59 standard enables the proven COM Express technology to be used in mission-critical and harsh environments. New mechanical parameters guarantee operation across an extended temperature range, while providing high shock and vibration resistance as well as EMC protection.

PEAK-System with CAN FD products and other innovations
PEAK-System presents two CAN FD interfaces for the USB port and suitable software for Windows at the embedded world. The PCAN-USB FD (1 x CAN FD) and the PCAN-USB Pro FD (2 x CAN FD, 2 x LIN) can achieve bit rates up to 12 Mbit/s in the data part of CAN FD frames. The CAN FD channels are galvanically isolated up to 500 Volts from the other device electronics. 

AMP: rugged PC/104 HD video recorder/streamer on show at Embedded World
